Skateboard law defeated in British Columbia

The Union of British Columbia Municipalities has voted helmet on legislation for skateboarders, inline skaters and scooter riders. The proposal was defeated in a close vote, by 198 votes to 190.

According to the PG Free Press, "the wheels quickly started to come off the idea when some civic reps questioned whether it might also apply to seniors or the handicapped in electric scooters or children's tricycles."

A Tofino councillor suggested the overwhelmingly non-skateboarding mayors and councillors at UBCM were unreasonably trying to restrict the lifestyle of local youth.
